AMERICAN COLLEGE 2020 REUNION Symposium That HAD Been Planned

CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME: A Naturalist and Theologian Reflect On the Challenges and Opportunities that Global Climate Change Present Today

A symposium on Our Changing Environment in the light of Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato Si: Care for Our Common Home” was planned for the 2020 ACAA reunion.  Nationally known environmental interpreter Nate Stevenson was scheduled to present a scientific overview of climate change and its impact on one of our nation´s greatest natural treasures, the giant sequoias of Sequoia National Park.  The following day, Sequoia Park naturalists were to lead a guided tour of the park to see those changes first hand.  That evening, Dr. Jerry Farmer, theologian and A.C. alumnus of the class of ’74 planned to offer a theological reflection on the ten green commandments of Laudato Si: Pope Francis´s encyclical on Care for Our Common Home, and the inherent challenges and opportunities that global climate change confronts us with today.  Unfortunately, the ACAA 2020 Reunion in Three Rivers, California was cancelled.
